My How Time Does Fly!
By Bea Foster
Here we are February, the second month of 2012! My question to everyone is what do you have in mind for your vacation this year? Do you plan to take one long vacation, several short getaways or just day trips. There are so many wonderful things to see and do in our area. One does not have to drive far to have a great one day getaway. Destinations within a several hour drive are: Lancaster, PA., Baltimore, MD., Washington, DC and much more. By all means, you do not want to forget "The City of Brotherly Love", Philadelphia with its wide variety of attractions, restaurants, theaters, etc.
Start with a visit to the Independence National Historical Park, home of our Liberty Bell.(www.nps.gov) This is not only a great place for adults to visit but for your children and grandchildren where they will learn the history of our country.
The Franklin Institute (www.fi.edu) is definitely a must see with both its continuing and traveling exhibits. Currently showing until April 15, 2012 is the world’s largest and unusual dinosaur exhibit "Giant Mysterious Dinosaurs." Young and old alike will surely enjoy this special showing.
Another must visit is the Please Touch Museum. (www.pleasetouchmuseum.org) Although, I myself have never visited this museum, I have been told by grandparents that their grandchildren have enjoyed this museum as it allows them to grow and play while learning to play with others. The children not only develop their imaginations and creativity but learn to explore and become familiar with the world we live in.
If you have never visited the Philadelphia Zoo why not enjoy a nice day at the zoo. (www.philadelphiazoo.org) Did you know that this zoo is America’s oldest zoo and is the home of over 1300 animals.
There are many more attractions in Philadelphia and its surrounding area and they are just across the Delaware River. Please check (www.visitphilly.com) for all of the attractions that are available to us.
